Expert Care for Complex Medical Conditions

Searching for Alzheimer's or dementia care near you? When your loved one has Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or other complex medical conditions, they need caregivers with specialized training. Our specialized care programs provide the expertise and compassion needed to manage challenging health situations at home.

What is Specialized Care?

Care That Goes Beyond the Basics

Specialized care is designed for individuals with specific medical conditions that require caregivers with additional training, knowledge, and skills. These conditions often present unique challenges that standard personal care cannot adequately address.

Our specialized caregivers undergo extensive training in condition-specific care techniques, behavioral management, safety protocols, and communication strategies. They understand the progression of diseases, how to adapt care as needs change, and how to work effectively with medical teams.

Whether your loved one is living with dementia, recovering from a stroke, managing Parkinson's, or facing end-of-life care needs. Our specialized care programs ensure they receive expert support tailored to their specific condition.

FAQ

Common Questions About Specialized Care

Answers to frequently asked questions about our specialized care services.

Our Alzheimer's and dementia caregivers receive specialized training in memory care techniques including redirection, validation therapy, and behavior management. They learn to recognize sundowning patterns, prevent wandering, maintain safe routines, and engage clients through reminiscence activities. Training is ongoing and updated as best practices evolve.
There's no single answer — it depends on the individual and their support system. Early signs that care is needed include forgetting medications, difficulty with meals or hygiene, getting lost in familiar places, or safety concerns like leaving the stove on. Many families start with companion care for supervision and socialization, then increase to personal care as the condition progresses.
Yes, many of our caregivers are trained and experienced in using Hoyer lifts, Sit-to-Stand lifts, gait belts, and other mobility equipment. During our initial assessment, we evaluate the equipment in your home and match you with a caregiver who is comfortable and proficient with it. For medical devices requiring clinical oversight, we recommend coordinating with a home health agency.
Our caregivers assist with oxygen equipment by ensuring the tubing is properly positioned, monitoring oxygen levels if a pulse oximeter is available, and helping with mobility while managing the equipment. They also watch for signs of respiratory distress and know when to alert family or medical providers. We do not adjust oxygen flow rates — that requires a nurse or respiratory therapist.
Specialized care in Southeast Michigan is priced at $35–$42/hr — higher than standard personal care ($29–$37/hr) because the caregiver has additional training (dementia, Parkinson's, post-stroke, ALS, hospice support), and the care plan is supervised by our credentialed team (RN, MHA, CDCP). The premium reflects clinical oversight, charting, and the family briefings that come with the case — not just the caregiver's wage.
