Our Commitment
Affordable Home Care strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide variety of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Our primary audience includes seniors, family caregivers, and people with disabilities, so accessibility is foundational to our work — not an afterthought.
Accessibility Features
In addition to standard accessibility practices (keyboard navigation, semantic HTML, skip links, ARIA landmarks, descriptive image alt text, and visible focus indicators), we offer a built-in accessibility panel — accessible from the icon at the bottom-right of every page — that lets you adjust:
- Text size — 100% to 150% in 12% increments.
- Display theme — Default, Dark, or High Contrast.
- Reduced motion — turns off non-essential animations and transitions.
- Link highlighting — adds underlines and stronger emphasis to links.
- Dyslexia-friendly font — switches body text to OpenDyslexic.
Your preferences are saved on your device. We also honor your operating system's prefers-reduced-motion setting automatically.
Technologies Relied Upon
Conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA depends on these technologies working with the combination of web browser and assistive technology installed on your device:
- HTML5
- WAI-ARIA
- CSS3
- JavaScript (React)
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known issues we are actively working to address:
- Embedded Google Maps: the third-party map iframe on the contact page inherits Google's accessibility behavior. The address it displays is also presented as plain text adjacent to the map.
- External links and PDFs: documents and websites linked from our resource pages are maintained by third parties and may not meet WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Some older blog imagery: a small number of decorative images may not yet have ideal alt text. We are working through these systematically.
Assessment Approach
We assess the accessibility of this website through a combination of self-evaluation against WCAG 2.1 Level AA, automated testing, and review of user feedback. This statement was last reviewed in May 2026.
