What is Companion Care?

More Than Just Caregiving—It's Friendship

Companion care is a non-medical home care service focused on providing social interaction, emotional support, and assistance with instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). Unlike personal care, companion care doesn't involve hands-on physical assistance but focuses on enhancing your loved one's quality of life through friendship and engagement.

Social isolation and loneliness are serious health risks for seniors, linked to depression, cognitive decline, and even increased mortality. Our companion caregivers provide regular visits that give seniors something to look forward to while ensuring their safety and well-being.

Companion care is ideal for seniors who are generally independent but could benefit from regular company, help with errands, or someone to accompany them to appointments and activities.

FAQ

Common Questions About Companion Care

Answers to frequently asked questions about our companion care services.

Companion caregivers provide social engagement, conversation, and help with light daily tasks. A typical visit might include chatting over coffee, playing cards or puzzles, going for a walk, preparing a meal together, helping with errands or grocery shopping, or accompanying your loved one to a doctor's appointment. The goal is to keep seniors socially active, mentally stimulated, and safely independent.
Yes — loneliness and social isolation are as dangerous to senior health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, according to research from the National Academies of Sciences. Companion care addresses the emotional and cognitive side of aging. Seniors who stay socially engaged have lower rates of depression, dementia, and hospitalization. If your parent is physically able but increasingly isolated, companion care can make a significant difference.
Yes, transportation is one of our most popular companion care services. Caregivers can drive your parent to medical appointments, the pharmacy, grocery store, hair salon, church, or social events. They stay with your parent during the outing to provide support and companionship throughout.
We prioritize consistency by matching you with the same caregiver(s) for every visit. Building a genuine relationship is the foundation of good companion care. With our 99.7% shift fill rate, your regular caregiver will almost always be there. In the rare event they're unavailable, we provide a qualified backup who has been briefed on your loved one's preferences and routine.
Companion care in Southeast Michigan is priced at $27–$32/hr through our agency. There is a 4-hour visit minimum, which keeps the visit meaningful and lets us assign caregivers to consistent, dignified shifts rather than rushed pop-ins. Pricing reflects W-2 employment, payroll taxes, workers' comp, liability insurance, supervision, backup coverage, and the full scheduling and matching process — not just the caregiver's wage.
