Greg Adair
Founder, Affordable Home Care · Strategic Advisor
Greg founded Affordable Home Care in 1989 and led it for more than three decades before transitioning ownership to his son Austin Adair. He continues to advise the company today.
In his own words — the road to founding Affordable Home Care
In 1976 Greg graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He later earned a Master's Degree in Health Administration from Central Michigan University in 1983. After three years moving around the country working in various food service operations, Greg and his wife, Cindy, had their first of three children and decided to return to Michigan.
In 1979 he joined a company called Care Centers of Michigan. Over the next ten years the company grew from two to nine nursing homes, a medical laboratory, and a physician's office. During his time there, Greg held a number of positions including Corporate Director of Purchasing, Administrator, Corporate Director of Personnel, and Division Manager for a home health agency, a Meals on Wheels program, and a 400-seat banquet facility. He created and managed the 90-member Institutional Purchasing Cooperative, which substantially reduced supply costs for nursing homes across the Detroit area. He was also involved in creating one of the first in-patient hospices and the only nursing-home-based ventilator specialty unit in the United States, and served as project manager for the Marion House Restaurant in Howell and the 79-bed expansion of Glacier Hills in Ann Arbor in 1989.
In 1989, Greg set off on his own when he and Cindy founded Healing Hands Associates, a company that provided staffing to hospitals and nursing homes. That organization later became what is known today as Affordable Home Care. As the live-in specialists, Affordable Home Care has built a unique alternative to institutional care for thousands of families across Southeast Michigan: one primary caregiver stays days and nights to provide personal care, meal preparation, and housekeeping so a person can stay at home — where they want to be. Under Greg's leadership Affordable Home Care became one of the area's largest Medicaid Waiver providers.
Throughout his career Greg has been a force behind positive change in the industry — pushing home-care licensure, quality-improvement programs, elder-abuse education, and emergency-response planning across Michigan.
