Who this is for
Families after a dementia or Alzheimer's diagnosis, or at the point where a parent is no longer safe alone during the day. Familiar surroundings matter enormously with memory loss, so our work is aimed at keeping someone home rather than moving them. Care is non-medical — supervision, personal care, and reminders, not clinical treatment.
A Registered Nurse behind every caregiver
Before a care professional ever works in your home, their hands-on skills are verified in real time by a Registered Nurse — not self-reported on an application. When a situation gets complicated, our caregivers are not guessing alone: our Registered Nurse is available for clinical input and provides background oversight for the team. Austin Adair, the owner, builds and owns your care plan and every reassessment himself. The care we deliver is non-medical.
The first 72 hours decide everything. We staff them differently.
Most agencies send whoever is free, hand them a care plan, and hope. We start most new cases with a Care Pro Lead — one of our highest-performing caregivers — who works the fragile first days and learns the home, the person, and the unwritten routines no care plan captures.
Then comes a Warm Handoff: your ongoing caregiver spends a full shift in the home alongside the Care Pro Lead before taking over, so the person who walks in on their first solo day is not a stranger.
The Care Pro Lead stays as your escalation point for the first 30 days. If your regular caregiver is out, the backup has already been briefed — or the Care Pro Lead comes back.
Why families pick us over the franchises
| Typical national agency | Affordable Home Care | |
|---|---|---|
| Caregiver continuity | A rotating cast of unfamiliar faces. | Scheduled for continuity, because new faces worsen dementia symptoms. |
| Day one of a memory-loss case | A stranger with a printed care plan. | A Care Pro Lead who learns the routines, then a Warm Handoff to the ongoing caregiver. |
| Skills verification | Self-reported on the application. | Verified in real time by a Registered Nurse during onboarding. |
| When behavior escalates | The caregiver improvises alone. | Our Registered Nurse is available for clinical input and the owner is reachable. |

Honest answers before you call
- Is home care realistic with dementia, or should we look at memory care?
- Familiar surroundings reduce confusion, so staying home is usually the better option for as long as it is safe. Austin will tell you honestly during the consult if the situation has moved past what in-home supervision can cover.
- What does dementia care cost?
- Dementia care is hands-on, so it is quoted at the $29–$37 per hour personal care rate; more complex specialized care runs $35–$42 per hour in Southeast Michigan.
- What if my father refuses help or gets agitated?
- That is expected, not a surprise. Care professionals are trained to redirect rather than confront, and we build the schedule so the same faces return. If refusal persists, we work the problem with you instead of walking away.
- Can we start with just a few hours for respite?
- Yes — many dementia cases start as respite so the family caregiver can rest. The minimum is 12 hours a week with four-hour visits.
- What do you not do?
- Care is non-medical. We supervise, assist, remind, and support; we do not provide clinical treatment or manage medications beyond reminders.
